A conference for the merging of Itoshima City held a contest to design the symbol of Itoshima City. There were 2,257 entries (1,161 from Itoshima District).  The design by Yasuyuki Mimaki, from Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture, received the highest award.

The conference slightly revised his design and decided the symbol of Itoshimashi as follows.

The Purpose Of This Design

The Symbol of Itoshima

The letters “I-To” in Itoshima City, which will merge Maebaru City, Nijo Town and Shima Town, were used for designing the city symbol.

The letter “To” was colored red and in the shape of a person to express the future image of Itoshima City, “Energetic People! Energetic City!” The letter “I” was colored blue and green to express the ocean, mountains and nature and means “Fresh City”.

The purpose of this design is to show Itoshima City as a rapidly growing and developing, fresh and energetic city.
