Outline Of Itoshima City (What is Itoshima City like?)
Itoshima City was established by the merging of Maebaru City, Nijo Town and Shima Town.
As of January 1st, 2010, Maebaru City, Nijo Town and Shima Town was merged into Itoshima City. This area has been called “Itoshima” for over 100 years,since Itoshima County was established in July of 1896. Maebaru City, Nijo Town and Shima Town have a strong connection in many ways, such as the sharing of livelihood, culture and economics. Therefore, various groups including the Agriculture Cooperative, Fishermen’s Cooperative, Medical Association and Junior Chamber have already been working together as “Itoshima”.
Agriculture, livestock and marine products from Itoshima have been established and sold as an Itoshima brand, not only in Fukuoka City, but also throughout Fukuoka prefecture and surrounding areas, as people and restaurants trust their safety and freshness.
In addition, Itoshima has been showcased on TV and in magazines for its beautiful beaches and mountains. With numerous leisure spots and scenic drives, guests can enjoy visiting various ateliers, cultural properties, ruins, etc., and purchase agriculture, livestock and marine products through direct sales.
By merging Maebaru City, Nijo Town, and Shima Town, in name and reality,“One Itoshima” was established.
